Dear Cohesion
Alliance partners,
The current COVID-19 crisis has shown that solidarity, responsibility and cohesion are needed now more than ever
to ensure that no one and no region is left behind.
As the emergency risks further deepening disparities between and within
Member States, the absence of coordinated and timely EU action would increase
the gaps between more and less developed communities. The joint ambition is to ensure that the EU 2021-2027 budget and the
post-pandemic recovery plan provide additional financial EU support to protect
citizens, support local economies and make local communities resilient to
future crises. To this end, strong
cohesion policy is needed more than ever and cohesion must be a key objective
for all EU policies and investments.
This year's Europe Day on the 9th of May, the #CohesionAlliance partner
organisations put forward a proposal for a renewed Declaration in view of the
proposal and further adoption of the EU's Recovery Strategy and of the
Multiannual Financial Framework beyond 2020. Please find here
the declaration in all languages.
The objective is to shape an inclusive new Declaration together along
with all stakeholders and institutions at European, national, regional and
local level, including governments, businesses and civil society. Since you are already a signatory of the
#CohesionAlliance, we would like to invite
you to send in your comments via e-mail (cohesionalliance@cor.europa. eu) by 30
May 2020. A final version of the Declaration will be adjusted after the
European Commission presents the revised MFF 2021-2027 and the EU Recovery Fund
proposal and it will launched by the partners of the #CohesionAlliance before
the next European Council takes place in June later this year.
We look forward to continuing our cooperation, and our shared commitment
to ensuring Europe's response to the pandemic meets the need of our citizens.
Best regards
#CohesionAlliance
