Retail Investment Advice in the EU
In times of economic crisis, protecting investors through the regulation and supervision of the advice they get is all the more important.
The Commission's mystery shopping action checked on the provision of investment advice across the EU as regulated by the 'Markets in Finanical Instruments Directive' (MiFID).
Our mystery shoppers visited over 1200 investment advisors in the EU to see if they observed MiFID requirements for advice. They recorded situations where advisors recommended products not subject to MiFID, and explain, as far as possible, the reasons for unsuitable product recommendations.
